John is from South Korea, and came to Northern Michigan as an exchange student. The De Rose's were the first ones to pick him up and meet him, and it was at their house I met John for the first time.
My first impression of John was that he was quiet and shy. Probably not to surprising considering he was in a different country and speaking a different language. However, as John spent more time in Marquette, he became very outgoing and gained a lot of confidence. Hugging was not something John did regularly before. Now every time you see him, you better believe he's going to hug you.
Selflessness. John is the definition of that word. During one of the hockey games, John won one of the raffle ticket prizes and got $140. Instead of keeping it for himself, he treated the InterVarsity crew to a pizza night out at Aubree's Pizza. He also once threw a big party for all his friends and covered most of the expenses himself personally.
John, you truly are an inspiring person. You always put others before yourself, and you always manage to make people smile with your signature hugs. I'm glad God brought us together, and I know you won't get to see this, but I want you to know I'm praying you. Hope you're doing well and that I get to see you again somehow before I leave.
