The Friendsite is dedicated to all of those people at Northern who have impacted my life in the most unimaginable ways. For as long as I've been a student at NMU, my friends have been so crucial in every aspect of my life. Because of them, I learned more about myself than I ever could have imagined, and I see how their support and influence has impacted me everyday. I knew for almost a whole year that when I got to my senior exhibition, this was the project that I wanted to do.
Every solid website starts with careful planning, as well as a well thought out design scheme and branding. I knew going into the project I wanted to experiment with overlays in HTML, as well as see how far I could push my developing limits within my design choices. I also wanted the site to have a nostalgic feel for anyone who may be viewing this website.
Over my 4 years at Northern Michigan University, I had learned many different styles of design, but HTML had become my favorite. This was by far the most intricate and technical website I coded in my 4 years here. I wanted to challenge myself by building an interesting, mobile friendly website with a lot of motion to help keep the site both exciting and dynamic.
With the help of my lovely photographer, Sarah Reimink, I wanted to capture each and every one of my friends personalities in each of their portraits. Throughout the semester, I held many photo shoots where my friends would come in and just be themselves, and I think seeing everyone's portraits was my favorite part of this project.
This is where it all began for me. My first year at Northern, I met a lot of amazing people in the dorms , many of whom I'm still friends with four years later.
Sometimes you end up becoming even closer to those you meet through others. This is for everyone I met through mutual friends who ended up becoming my friends.
My 3rd year at Northern, I joined InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, where I not only learned a lot about Christianity, but also got to meet a ton of cool people.
Whether it was pulling all-nighters or putting in work at the lab, these are the people who shared similar struggles as me, and became my friends because of it.
