Solar Industry

I can't think of a better way to help contribute my talents to renewable energy and appease the sun gods at the same time!

Shortly after graduating from Northern Michigan University, I started to work for TB Visuals as a Contract Graphic Designer. One of their specialties is helping with the branding and identity of Solar Companies. Before working at TB Visuals, I honestly did not know very much about the Solar Industry. I never realized how large of an industry it was becoming and the demand for these companies to represent themselves in the most accurate and professional manner possible. Fortunately for me, I was given an opportunity in helping out these companies while gaining valuable freelance experience at the same time.

When it came to what type of Solar companies we have worked with, there really wasn't just one type . We have worked with all sorts of different solar companies that range in services as well as size. Regardless of whether it was a large multi-national corporation or a small, remote start up, I strived to treat every client with the same amount of hard work and preparation that went into helping build succesful marketing collateral for these companies.

Business proposals

One of the first things I came to realize when doing work for these companies was the important role their business proposals played in the advancement of meeting their business goals.

Whether it was to obtain new business or to acquire funding from investors, these companies relied on their business proposals to layout their plans and sell their potential services, so it was very important that these proposals were not only informative but also eye catching.

Business Proposals

Affordable Solar

Affordable Solar is our largest solar client and has installed over 2,500 solar systems in New Mexico and supplied more than 20,000 systems to commercial, industrial, scientific, community and residential customers in 96 countries. For this business proposal, Central New Mexico Community College was building a solar generation facility on their West Side Campus, and needed a proposal that presented the specific advantages it could offer the university while also detailing it's extensive portfolio of clients it has already worked for in the past.

Solaris

Solaris is the sister company of Affordable Solar based out of Puerto Rico, and their focus is offering homeowners cleaner, cheaper energy for $0 down and free installation through a lease agreement. For Solaris's proposal, they wanted to focus on the cost efficiency both they and Affordable Solar could offer compared to other solar companies.

CleanSwitch

CleanSwitch is one of the West's leading solar power design and installation companies. With offices in New Mexico and Arizona, the CleanSwitch team has been engineering, manufacturing and installing solar photovoltaic systems for more than 30 years. Much like Solaris's proposal, Cleanswitch wanted to focus on the cost efficiency of their business model and also wanted a general portfolio of previous clients like Affordable solar's proposal.

website

Remote Energy's website was actually the first project I was given when I started working for TB Visuals. Remote energy was a company that focused on solar installations for remote rural communities and tribes that were too far off the grid to obtain consistent power. Due to the reclusive nature of their work and many of their potential clients not always having internet, the company was hoping to get the word out about their services by developing more of a web presence where others would able to find them and see what kind of services they offered.

For this project, I wanted the website to really focus on the remote aspect of their work and the landscapes and terrain where many of their clients live.

For the website, I found images of rural New Mexico landscapes and combined them with brand elements that we had developed for them. They wanted the website to be simple, yet exciting. They also wanted the website to be one page only as they didn't want viewers to get lost within the navigation of their site. It was also important that the site was mobile as some of their clients were still able to get cell service in certain areas, and were able to access the internet that way. After getting approval on the design, I moved onward to the development of the website which took just under a month to develop and launch. Once the site was live, Remote Energy noticed an increase in business, and were surprised how quickly their name was spread around the rural New Mexico communities because of people being able to access their site. Just goes to show it's always important to have a presence on the web no matter how small or remote the work may be.
